A BRIEF INTRODUCTION & HISTORY

The Village Hall is a substantial architecturally admired stone building, created via private subscription at the corner of Ritchie Street and Arthur Street.  It has been the focal point of the village since its opening in 1900. Originally intended to replace a former library and provide new leisure facilities for the community, for the first 60 years is was a privately run enterprise called the West Kilbride Institute, the name can be seen carved in stone above the main entrance in the picture below left .
In 1959 ownership passed to the Public Authority and at present is the property of North Ayrshire Council (NAC) but managed by the Trustees and a Management Group who are all volunteers who collectively have a wide range of skills and expertise.

* One of the photographs on the left was taken just after the hall was built in 1900, the other was taken in 2018, have a guess which is which.

CURRENT STATUS

Since the 1st May 2012 and with a 45 year lease, it is run as a charity by the volunteers for the benefit of the local community and known as West Kilbride Village Hall Scottish Charitable Incorporated Organisation (SCIO)
No. SC042666.

It is the NAC's responsibility to keep the building wind and water-tight, while the role of the Trustees and Management Group is to deal with all aspects of the day-to-day management, maintenance and running of the building, this partnership is working exceptionally well.

TRUSTEES AND MANAGEMENT

We normally receive up to a 1000 individual hall bookings per year and due to the increasing demand for bookings requiring catering facilities such as weddings, christenings and parties we are in the process of upgrading and refurbishing the facilities to meet the required modern standards.
We are very conscious of protecting the environment and keep running costs as low as possible while enhancing the facilities. All the day to day costs associated with utilities, hall keepers wages, general maintenance and upkeep of the building are met from fund raising activities. We have been recognised by North Ayrshire Council for our outstanding voluntary contribution to the communities.
All local support is welcome, necessary and very much appreciated by the Trustees and Management Group.

FUNDING OF PROJECTS

There have been various projects over the years to make the Village Hall a functional and comfortable venue for the public attending the numerous and varied events.
Contributors who have made the projects possible with their funding include:
Awards for All; Moffat Trust; West Kilbride Community Trust; Bain Memorial Trust, North Ayrshire Council; Magnox; Town Centre Regeneration Grant; Mary Lockhart Trust and other private donations.

The kitchen has been totally refurbished thanks to all who made it possible with a particular mention to the West Kilbride Community Trust & Landtrust.

The hall was recently closed for one week, the hall staff and volunteers worked exceptionally hard to thoroughly clean, sand down and paint the toilets, Ritchie Room and the entrance hallway making a huge difference and brightened up the hall considerably.
